PAI! Located 134km (84 miles) out of Chiang Mai. Instead of taking under 2 hours to get to, you are looking more at 3-4 hours. The reason... The most winding rode I have ever been on. Luckily, you are traveling in a non-air-conditioned bus who's driver is sucking down energy drinks (probably making his 5th trip from Chiang Mai to Pai of the day). What really impressed me though, was when the bus broke down and our trusty driver got right down to it and fixed the fuckin thing-

But you'll glady take that bus trip again once you arrive in Pai. This little town which is built around the Pai river is one of the most pleasent places I have been (so far) in my life. It is advised to rent a motorbike when you are here so you are able to get around and also leave the immediate town to see local sights. I certainly had a go on one-

If you are looking for a guest house, there are great bungalows along the river with private bathroom, hot water, fan and FREE internet in each bungalow (which I am on now.) For 300 baht a night, you can't go wrong. After zipping around all day on a motorbike its nice to just kick it on the porch-

Since your Bungalow is located next to the river, the mosquito problem can be pretty serious. For this reason, the proprietors of the guest house supplies each bungalow with mosquito removers-

As usual in Thailand there are spectacular Temples located just 15 minutes away-

I booked a white water rafting trip which i would love to show pics of but did not bring a camera in the raft (kinda makes sense, no?)... the highlight of that was the 10m cliff jump.
Sorry for the cliche blog material again, but this seems like an issue worth mentioning:

This could really change the current state of NYC graffiti if it goes into effect...

Vallone Supports Bill Which Creates New Felony Graffiti Law

City Councilmember Peter Vallone Jr., a staunch foe of graffiti activities, came out last week in support of a bill introduced by Assemblymember Catherine Nolan which would allow prosecutors to charge repeat graffiti offenders with a felony, rather than a misdemeanor.

"Right now, graffiti punks often get caught, get a slap on the wrist, and are out tagging again the next day," said Vallone. "This bill will let us catch someone once and deter them from ever doing graffiti again."

Emphasizing the point, Vallone said, "Get caught once and get away with it, shame on you; get caught twice and get away with it, shame on us."

Vallone (D- Astoria) explained that Nolan's bill would amend the current New York state penal law by replacing the offense of "Making Graffiti" with the offense of "Making Graffiti in the first degree" and "Making Graffiti in the second degree". Making Graffiti in the second degree would be an A misdemeanor, the same as the current law. But someone convicted of the second degree crime on two or more occasions can be charged with the first-degree violation, an E felony.

The new bill would also increase the crime of possession of graffiti instruments from a B to an A misdemeanor, Vallone added.

Vallone said vandals who commit large amounts of graffiti, or are convicted on three or more occasions, are often charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, an E felony. But, he said it is often difficult to prove that a vandal has caused more than $250 in damages, which is the threshold for the felony crime.

The Nolan bill would make getting a felony conviction for serial graffiti vandals much easier, Vallone said. Moreover, a second conviction of making graffiti in the first degree, a felony, would lead to mandatory state prison time, a strong deterrent, Vallone pointed out.

"We must send the message that graffiti is a serious crime that we are taking very seriously," Vallone stated. "If you keep tagging our streets, you will get tagged with a felony."- John Toscano

In the beginning of 2007, I must have opened over 6,000+ of these filthy newspaper boxes throughout NYC (and some other cities) to stick my name in them. I've seen all sorts of crazy shit (literally) in some of these boxes. Today, I would say about 90% of my work is all gone. In the end, I looked at it as great exercise from walking through many different neighborhoods in all the boroughs day after day... I ran across a site the documented this "project" recently:

Check it out: http://www.mysteriouswilliams.com/dcever.html

Whoever you are "Mysterious Williams"... But, unfortunately, I would never be able to build some shit like this. Hopefully they do it right where you can get like a flare effect. Thanks to 'mphresh' for sending this in...

Nintendo’s non-traditional interface for the Wii console lends itself to any number of odd controller hacks and designs, and the latest is this prototype Wiispray can. Part of Martin Lihs’ final thesis at Bauhaus-University in Weimar, Germany, the can-style casing contains a dismembered Wiimote coupled to a nozzle button. It can be used to manipulate an on-screen virtual spraycan, with different paints and color options that are controlled by realistic graffiti movements.

Although still early in the development process, it suggests another type of game platform and a fresh twist on the tired “art” app. The success of custom controllers for specific titles suggests that gamers are interested in a more realistic interaction than permitted by a standard joypad. Lihs plans to integrate a communal wall for collaborative graffiti in the eventual software title, that would allow ‘players’ to work on the same art project.

Rather than a specially designed can, though, it would seem easier to make a Wiispray ‘caddy’ into which the Wiimote could slot. Some clever thinking could link the nozzle button to one of the Wiimote’s controls via mechanical rather than electrical means; price would also be reduced.
