In the beginning of 2007, I must have opened over 6,000+ of these filthy newspaper boxes throughout NYC (and some other cities) to stick my name in them. I've seen all sorts of crazy shit (literally) in some of these boxes. Today, I would say about 90% of my work is all gone. In the end, I looked at it as great exercise from walking through many different neighborhoods in all the boroughs day after day... I ran across a site the documented this "project" recently:
